Building Control
Building control is one of the integral parts of today’s construction industry. Government firmly sees the building regulations and the building control system that supports them as a fundamental part of their strategy to reduce carbon emissions and preserve energy as well as water, access, fire and structural stability. Despite this there are numerous challenges to the building control system as we know it with suggestions ranging from a tweak around the edges to wholesale review and abolition of both the building regulations and the building control system. This presentation will provide an update on these challenges, the issues that have caused them and provide an opportunity for comment and debate ahead of the governments own review consultation on the “Future of Building Control” which will be circulated in December.
Speaker
Steve Evans is Chief Building Control Surveyor at building control MK and has over 20 years experience in building control. He is also presently the President of LABC, the body that represents Local Authority Building Control, chair of the LABC Future of Building Control Working Group and a founder member of the Building Control Alliance, a pan industry group working closely with the government on various building control related projects.
